My 3rd Great Uncle Ammiel Brickell was shot and killed in Colfax and is among the earliest graves in the Colfax Cemetery. Here is a link to the newspaper article about the hanging of the young man who had worked for him and his two brothers – EJ and Barzillai Brickell – at their saloon in Illinoistown and who shot. They had fired him and he ran off with Ammiel’s 15 year old daughter. When they finally returned to town there was a confrontation and young Samuel Garrett shot Ammiel Brickell dead. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/46502345/ammiel-brickell https://www.newspapers.com/clip/9699054/wm_s_kelly_executed_for_killing_of/?xid=637
